Please join AGS’ advocacy efforts in the annual congressional budget process currently underway for fiscal year (FY) 2026 and urge your members of Congress to support increased funding for the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Programs (GWEPs) and Geriatrics Academic Career Awards (GACAs) as well as research initiatives within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Institute on Aging (NIA), and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Continued and enhanced federal investment in programs designed to develop a healthcare workforce trained in geriatrics principles and scientific advancements through groundbreaking aging research is critically important to ensure all of us as we age are able to receive high-quality care. Visit our Health in Aging Advocacy Center to support expanding federal investments for the GWEPs and GACAs as well as aging research at the NIH & NIA and VA.

As in the past, judges will be paired in groups and will be able to ask students and residents follow-up questions about their presentations to help with scoring. Judges can expect an assignment of about 4-5 posters during the poster session.

We're so grateful to our volunteers who make this session possible!
We still have a number of slots available during #AGS25 in Chicago for junior faculty with federal funding to film a one-minute video about how your work will improve the health and well-being of older adults. We are looking for volunteers to film a brief 1- minute video about the importance of your work with our onsite videographer. We will provide post-production editing of the video and plan to share it on our social media channels pending your approval.
If you are attending #AGS25 and would like to participate, please email Jennifer Fisher (jfisher@americangeriatrics.org) with your name, email address, and a sentence or two about your federally-funded program or project. We are looking for a diverse mix of individuals and projects/programs that are representative of the diversity of our field and programs. This opportunity is first come, first served – so if you are interested, please make sure to reach out right away! We are currently developing guidance and tips to help selected volunteers prepare for their filming.

We are deeply saddened to share the sudden passing of Dr. George Taler on April 15, 2025. Dr. Taler was a tireless champion for team-based, person-centered care. A pioneer in geriatric medicine, Dr. Taler dedicated his five-decade career to improving and providing quality care for older adults. He co-founded the MedStar House Call Program and helped shape national policy through his advocacy for the Independence at Home law. Take a moment to watch this short video featuring Dr. Taler discuss the housecalls program in his own words.
Congratulations to AGS member Dr. Rebecca Brown, whose recent piece was published in the Chicago Tribune! Her insightful commentary highlights the importance of supporting caregivers. Read it here.
At the American Geriatrics Society, we know that advancing high-quality, person-centered care for older adults takes a village—and our volunteers are at the heart of it all.
Whether serving on committees, reviewing abstracts and manuscripts, or contributing to writing groups, our volunteers bring the passion and purpose that power our mission forward.
Your time, expertise, and commitment shape the resources, research, and relationships that define our field. This Volunteer Appreciation Month, we extend our deepest thanks—not just for what you do, but for who you are: champions of better care for us all as we age.
