Omar Amir, MD, MS
Choosing Wisely® Champions program helps expand the Choosing Wisely® campaign by highlighting stories of people whose leadership in choosing tests and treatments wisely has inspired others to promote high-quality, person-centered care. For the 2025 award, the AGS congratulates Omar Amir, MD, MS. As the Director of the Age Friendly Acute Care Unit at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, Dr. Amir prioritizes implementing geriatric standards of clinical care based on the IHI’s Geriatric 4Ms model.
He teaches rotating Internal Medicine trainees on the 4Ms model through interdisciplinary rounds, bedside teaching sessions, and afternoon case or topic-based didactics. This rotation is highly regarded for its unique and innovative educational value, particularly for Dr. Amir’s emphasis on an evidence-based approach to discussing treatment goals with patients and families, focusing on What Matters Most.
